Wearing of the green!
On March 17, almost everyone is Irish. Take a look at these books on Ireland.
Traveling to Ireland? Try Fodor’s guides on the emerald isle.
Researching your family history? Take a look at ‘ A Genealogist’s guide to discovering your Irish ancestors’, just one of several in the genealogy section.
Maeve Binchy writes of contemporary Ireland. A novel by her is ‘Heart and Soul,’ the story of family, friends, patients and staff who are part of a heart clinic in a community with conflicts between the old and the new in Ireland.
Or try Tana French’s psychological thrillers. Follow the ‘murder squad’ in Dublin as they work to solve the crime. The latest is ‘Broken Harbor.’
There are many more books with an Irish theme…just type in ‘Ireland’ in the online catalog and you’ll get a long list of fiction and nonfiction books on Ireland, including St. Patrick.
Erin go braugh!
March Madness
March Madness is upon us
It is a phenomenon that grips the national sports psyche from the first week of March through the first week of April.
Whether you are interested in planning a trip to the NCAA Tournament or preparing for an office pool, March Madness will be an exciting time for you, even if you’re not normally an avid sports fan.
It begins with the televised Selection Sunday event when teams from schools, large and small, get the decision on whether they will be in the tournament.
If you’re a basketball fan, check out the 796.323 non fiction section for books on the sport. Many biographies of basketball players are on the shelves too: Julius Erving, Larry Bird, and Ming Yao, and Bill Russell are just a few.
There is even a series of mysteries in which the main character is a former basketball player turned sports agent. Look for the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben.
